B E V E R L Y M A D E H E R new hus- band, Read, move to Yellow Springs so she could finish college, but not until 20 years later—the year before her eldest son graduated from high school—did she finally graduate. Three years later she got her master’s degree in social work. The whole time she lived in Yellow Springs she was a community builder. First raising her family (Tucker, Kris, Heidi and Roslyn), singing in any choir, running her design-cen- tric fabric shop (Kings Yard Goods), teaching Head Start and later manag- ing Montgomery and Green County health agencies. An active Democrat and politi- cian,she ran for county commissioner and served on the board of Antioch University. She donated the toilets in theAntioch Inn (known as the Beverly Viemeister Memorial Toilets). She was a supporter of the Glen with both money and service. In 2001 she received the well-deserved Read, Bev, Portia, Kris, Leigh, Tucker, Sarah, Roslyn, Alison and Heidi. Arthur Morgan Award for commu- nity service.
