195 AN T I OC H CO L L E G E C L A S S O F 19 6 5 5 0 t h A N N I V E R S A R Y B O O K W O L L E N In 2006, just after the 110th anniversary of Center Lumber, I published The Complete Book of Wood Mouldings: 1,850 Profiles from the Center Lumber Collection . It was a 270-page book and DVD of illustrations, uniquely and intuitively arranged, that had grown out of my experi- ences working with my customers. An additional advantage for archi- tects was that they could export profiles off the disk directly onto their renderings. That same year, I decided to make a minor change to my home, the 80-year-old cottage on an idyllic lake that I had purchased in 1990. That little modification snowballed into a three-year complete renova- tion. I had dreamed for years of cre- ating my own home. Now I found I had gathered the knowledge, re- sources and creative collaborators to make it happen and tailor it to my dreams: a bedroom aerie of glass overlooking the lake, fully func- tioning art studio and more. Every day here gives me enormous plea- sure. In 2012 I retired. There have been more travels—to Senegal (to be with my old Antioch classmate Karen Jorgensen), Korea, ten weeks touring Southeast Asia, and I discov- ered how much I enjoyed going to Florida—another exotic country. There is also lots of making art—es- pecially since converting a sunken garage into a second painting studio for really sloppy painting and for a place where friends come to make things—to paint on rocks, bend twigs, carve wood.
