Antioch College:Majored in psy- chology.Co-op jobs:Atascadero State Hospital in California for criminally insane and sexual deviants; in charge of the art room at Philadelphia Psychiatric Hospital—great prepara- tion for career in mental health coun- seling as a social worker. Studied at the University of Besançon in France, 3rd year of college:Lived and worked in a 16th-century chateau owned by a Quaker family in the Loire Valley; in a chalet in Zinal, Switzerland,with a French family caring for their four young children; traveled throughout Europe; was dreaming and thinking in French when I came back to the States. Living and studying in Europe for 13 months, thanks to Antioch, was a major highlight of my life. After college I moved to Chicago for a master’s degree in social work at the University of Chicago. I com- pleted my degree years later at Loyola University. Worked in Chicago as a social worker: Cook County Public Aid; Legal Aid Bureau; Maryville Academy (home for dependent and neglected children); psycho- therapist at Park Ridge Community Mental Health Center; The Cradle adoption agency; private practice in Des Plaines; taught college level psychology course; on Community Relations Board. We moved to Ft. Lauderdale in 1978. After living in 23 places in four countries and five states before I was 23 years old, we have lived on the same block for 35 years. Stuart is in commercial real estate and works full time as the managing partner of an office warehouse park. I’ve worked at seven hospitals as the Director of Social Work and Patient Advocate Coordinator. Currently I work part time as the Oncology Resource Coordinator at Bethesda Memorial Hospital, counseling can- cer survivors and their families and facilitating six support groups and classes.Was state president National Society of Hospital Social Work Directors, taught college and gradu- ate school courses, had several pri- vate practices, served as a Red Cross Disaster Mental HealthVolunteer.We are founders of Gilda’s Club, a South Florida cancer support community. I was on the Executive and Health Care Boards for five years. Hobbies, interests, activities: We are passionate about seeing the world and have visited 51 countries and almost all 50 states.We love the arts and support four art museums, a concert series, the Miami City Ballet and theater. We live on a ca- nal that goes out to the Intracoastal Waterway and are a 10-minute drive from the ocean. I’m an avid reader and have been reading Marcel Proust’s In Search of Lost Time for the past four years with a book club, practice Zen Buddhism, currently taking a 200-hour yoga teacher train- ing course, paint, sing in a chorus, play the ukulele, docent at the Ft. Lauderdale Art Museum, and write poetry, my memories and family sto- ries. I would love to reconnect with old friends and see Antioch again af- ter being away for 50 years.
