In my personal life, David Franklin and I got married in 1980, giving me a ready-made family of three kids, Michael, Joanne and Joe. This has expanded into a family with seven grandkids. Michael lived with us for a num- ber of years, but the other two lived with their mother. Nonetheless over the years we have gotten close. Michael lives in New Hampshire, about 75 miles from us, but the other two live in Alaska (Joanne) and Washington state (Joe).We only get to see the latter two about once a year. Antioch: When I arrived at Antioch, I knew it was THE school for me. I loved the lack of confor- mity, the co-op program, the small size, the informality, the Glen, and the activism (even though I wasn’t very) as just a few of the things. It allowed me to flourish which I do not think would have happened at my other alternatives. Although the co-op program wasn’t supposed to be for making money, I usually was able to save a substantial amount to help with schooling. I loved my co- op jobs and am thrilled to have had the experiences. Victories? I don’t think I have accomplished or tried to accom- plish any victories. I am not an ac- tivist on a grand scale. I would say that any successes I’ve had are on a much smaller scale...with my hus- band, developing and providing tac- tile aids for the deaf, later sponsor- ing a child in Uganda, paying for a few children in a small SouthAfrican village in the Kalahari to go to high school (one has to pay to go to high school in S.A.), weekly mentoring of an orphaned and poor S.A. child, cooking meals for our local home- less group, promoting human and animal welfare in my small way, tak- ing care of several feral cats in little shelters in our driveway, and trying to be kind. With David and three friends in Soweto.
