Linden Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15208 CONTACT 412 661-5020 advhsv@gmail.com PROFESSIONAL LIFE: I am currently retired. After Antioch, I went to Harvard Medical School, served my draft obligation in the Indian Health Service for two years, emigrated and lived in Israel for nine years where I completed my residency in ophthal- mology and then served a two year stint as an ophthalmologist in Lesotho. I returned and completed my medical training with a fellow- ship in cornea and external disease. I spent the rest of my academic life (29 years) as a clinician/scientist in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. My areas of sub- specialty included cornea and ex- ternal disease and cataract surgery with research in molecular virology funded by NIH. I had the requisite number of publications, presenta- tions and national professional re- sponsibilities to sustain my position at the university. PERSONAL L I FE: I am married to Elizabeth Boltson ’67.We have two adult sons: Ram (a cardiologist in Conn.) and Assaf (a pain medicine specialist in D.C.) with six grand- children (four girls and two boys) from 2½ to 12 years old. My current hobbies include: study (cosmology, hominid evolution, languages, Old Testament), visiting our grandchil- dren, travel (U.S., Mexico, Europe and Israel), and trying to learn how to play the ukulele! VICTORIES FOR HUMANITY: I provided medical care to underserved popu- lations including the Navajo Nation, the Basotho people (southernAfrica) and theArabs and Jews of Jerusalem. I grapple with man’s inhumanity to his fellow man worldwide and don’t have any viable solutions at this stage of my life. INFLUENCE OF ANTIOCH EDUCATION: It provided me with the love of my life and my spouse of 47 years, Elizabeth Boltson. It provided me with the rig- orous education in science (both classroom and coop) and the out- look that enabled the life that fol- lowed. Current relation to Antioch: We have supported Antioch College since its closure, reopening, and quest to define a relevant, signifi- cant role for a small college to ad- dress current and future problems on a global scale. Elizabeth Boltson Gordon ’67 and Jerry with six grandchildren!
