We moved to Ahmed’s native country of Morocco in 1968 and lived in Mohammedia for the next forty years. Ahmed was an engi- neer in an oil refinery and I taught English in the public high school, Lycée Ibn Yassine, and then in a col- lege preparing teachers to work in technical high schools. I also com- pleted yet another master’s degree in English literature at Mohammed V University in Rabat, Morocco. We had two daughters, Miriam and Nora, who attended the local French schools. Ahmed died in 2009 and I re- turned to the United States to be closer to my daughters, Miriam in Portland, Ore., and Nora in Calgary, Alberta. Miriam has two sons,Anwar and Sami. Here in Portland I taught ESL part-time at the Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization for a few years, but have now retired. I have not made any great achievements, but I have tried to contribute in my small way to in- ternational and intercultural un- derstanding. Antioch has greatly influenced all that I have done. In addition to my classes in anthropol- ogy and intensive study of French, it is thanks to my co-op experiences in Boston, Chicago, New York and Paris that I was able to adapt to life in Morocco and now to my life as a retiree in Portland. I have followed recent events at Antioch College with great interest and am very pleased to see the re- birth of cooperative education. I feel that the practical experience gained by a variety of co-op jobs gives a healthy balance to a decidedly lib- eral classroom education. As always, I contribute as much as I am able, and wish the best of luck to the cur- rent administration, professors and students. Ann and Ahmed, Besançon, France 1962. Ann, colleague and students, Lycee Ibn Yassine, Morocco, 1978.
