Since I retired, my sis- ter,Wendy, and I have been traveling with nonprofits and getting a chance to see the world. One group based in Berkeley is Seacology. It helps lo- cal people living on islands protect their rain forests or ocean reefs. As a side benefit, I get a chance to scuba dive, which is one of the first things I learned to do when I moved to California. It is a wonderful world underwater. Another organization is IDEX which helps local people, especially marginalized women, in India and Latin America. American Jewish World Service works on so- cial justice issues in the poorest re- gions in the world. Unfortunately I did not take advantage of Antioch Education Abroad, so I guess I am making up for lost opportunities. In 2008, at age 67—a bit over the age limit, I donated a kidney. An amazing experience to help some- one regain good health by giving an “old” used body part. The benefits are immediately felt. Both donor and recipient are doing well some six years later.
