Welcome to the Mills Lawn Elementary 2023–2024 school year! On behalf of the teachers and staff, we are excited to have students back in the classrooms and look forward to a new school year. There will be new faces joining Mills Lawn Elementary for the upcoming school year. We welcome Jocelyn Bailey, fourth grade teacher; Kylie Grauer, third grade teacher; Lori Schubel, instruc- tional assistant; Jamie Vest, third grade teacher; Mary Oakley, instructional assis- tant; and Megan Bachman, STEM; to the Bulldog Family. Our goal is to continue to provide the resources and support necessary for all students to feel valued, accepted and safe. Students can expect to be challenged as we continue our innovative approach with project-based learning aligned to our state standards, and we are excited to announce the addition of a new sci- ence, technology, engineering and math, or STEM, experience for all K–6 students. The STEM curriculum will provide an opportunity for students to be engaged in hands-on STEM lessons and to develop coding skills. Once again this school year, Mills Lawn students will be taking the MAP® Growth™ tests from NWEA® in English language arts, or ELA, and math. MAP Growth scores help teachers check stu- dent performance by measuring achieve- ment and growth. Teachers use results to tailor classroom lessons and develop individual goals and interventions for stu- dents. NWEA® MAP tests will be admin- istered within the Aug. 28–Sept. 8 testing window. Enjoy the last days of summer break, and we will see you soon!
