ISABELLE ELLIS PARENTS/GUARDIANS: Suzanne and Brett Ellis I have enjoyed growing up in the warm and friendly community of Yellow Springs. I will always be grateful for the opportunities Yellow Springs Schools have provided me. I am extremely lucky to have met some of my lifelong friends through Yellow Springs High School and have made memories that will last a lifetime. I will be attending The Ohio State University this fall and plan to major in biology to pursue a career in vet- erinary medicine. The teachers who supported me throughout my educa- tion in Yellow Springs have provided a solid foundation from which I will continue to grow. ABIGAIL FLANAGAN PARENTS/GUARDIANS: Libby and Kevin Flanagan It’s been a rough year for everyone, but I think it has gone as smoothly as it possibly could have. Yellow Springs gave me some of the best friends I could have ever asked for, who I will hopefully stay in touch with even after high school. After graduation, I plan on taking a gap year and establishing my art career. SAMUEL FOSTER No response submitted. ANNLYN FOSTER PARENTS/GUARDIANS: Stephanie Randolph What I found most meaningful in my high school experience is sports, because it relieves my stress, gives me a good workout and helps my mental health. A good thing about YS schools is being able to be close to my teachers and be able to communicate about concerns or problems around the school. I would change that we need more diversity in our schools, not just stu- dents but also teachers and admin- istrators. We also need to be able to learn more about cultural differences and be aware of them. We need to also learn more on Black History month, and not just learn the exact same things we learned in elementary. We need to also learn more on Indigenous month, Asian Month and other cul- tural months. We also need to be not judgemental to outsiders and be more aware of the fact tht not everyone’s backgrounds are going to be the same as ours. We also should be sensitive to issues such as LGBTQ+, BLM, Fems/ Womanists and talk about issues we need to discuss and not censor stu- dents ideas or books. I plan on attending Park Univeristy in Gilbert, Arizona to run Track and Field and major in fitness health. I see myself as either being a pharmacist, kinesiologist or becoming a lawyer. PETE FREEMAN PARENTS/GUARDIANS: Nicole and Jacob Freeman My experience growing up in Yellow Springs was great; it’s a model com- munity that any child would be lucky to spend their childhood in. One problem, however, was the school. Although I met many friends and had solid social experiences, the actual education was flawed. As much as I appreciate the skills that my PBL education has instilled in me, I feel grossly under-prepared for college. This is by no means a jab at the teach- ers, as I have met many quality educa- tors who teach at YSHS. They were just doing as they were told and made the best out of what they were given. Regardless, I still feel absolutely blessed to grow up in the YS commu- nity and am highly appreciative of all the people who have helped me along the way. 4 Yellow Springs High School C L A S S O F 2 0 2 1 A Special Section of the YELLOW SPRINGS NEWS | May 20, 2021 Current Cuisine Dunphy Real Estate, Jo, Teresa & Sheila Emporium Wines/Underdog Café O U R S P O N S O R S
