ELECTION 2020 VOTERS GUIDE November 2020 3 HHHH Election & Voting Information How the Voters Guide is compiled: The League of Women Voters of the Greater Dayton Area publishes the Voters Guide each year to provide a forum for candidates and to list the issues that will appear on the November ballot. Questionnaires were distributed by e-mail to all candidates on the ballot in Montgomery and Greene counties. Candidates submitted their responses electronically, and they have been printed without changes. This Voters Guide includes candidate responses only for contested races. You can find information about candidates in uncontested races in our online Voters Guide atVote411.org. NO RESPONSE indicates the candidate did not reply by the stated deadline.Asterisks (*) denote incumbent candidates.Candidates are listed alphabetically by last name. The League does not endorse or reject the views of any candidate or party.Nor does the League assume responsibility for the content of any candidate’s reply. Who will Ohio voters elect? Voting by Mail (Absentee): Make sure your Ballot is COUNTED! Ohio voters in 2020 will elect: • President and Vice President • Representatives to U.S. Congress • Justices of Ohio Supreme Court • Court of Appeals Judges (some districts) • State Representatives • State Senators (even-numbered districts only) • County Commissioners • County Prosecuting Attorney • County Clerk of Courts • County Sheriff • County Recorder • County Treasurer • County Engineer • County Coroner • Court of Common Pleas Judges • Members of State Board of Education (some regions) Voting procedures Where to vote Cast your ballot at the polling place designated to serve the precinct in which you reside. If you don’t know where you are assigned to vote, call your county board of elections or visit their website: Montgomery County, 937-225-5656; https://www.montgomery.boe.ohio . gov/. Greene County: 937-562-6170; http:// www.co.greene.oh.us/BOE Eligibility You are qualified to vote if you meet these requirements: • You are a citizen of the United States. • You will be at least 18 years old on or before Nov. 3. • You will have been a resident of Ohio for at least 30 days before the election. • You have registered to vote at least 30 days before the election. The last day to register for the Nov. 3 election is Monday, Oct. 5. How to Vote Instructions on how to cast your ballot, including casting a ballot for a write-in candidate, will be given by the election officials at the polling place. Early Voting Hours You can cast your ballot up to 29 days before Election Day at your county board of elections. Any of the following forms of identification may be used, as long as they show the name and address matching your voter registration: 1. A current and valid Ohio driver’s license (may show a prior address) 2. A current and valid photo ID card issued by the State of Ohio or the U.S. government 3. Amilitary ID 4. An original or copy of a current utility bill 5. An original or copy of a current bank statement 6. An original or copy of a current paycheck 7. An original or copy of a current government check 8. An original or copy of a current other government document All registered voters in Ohio should have received an Absentee Voter Application Form from the secretary of state’s office. NO FAXED ABSENTEE APPLICATION REQUESTS ARE PERMITTED BY LAW. If requesting a ballot bymail,yourwritten request must be received by the Board of Elections by noon on Saturday, October 31. Please request an absentee ballot as early as possible and allow enough time to return the ballot by mail, or hand deliver to your Board of Elections to meet the return deadline (7:30 p.m. on Election Day) in order to be counted. Foryourabsenteeballotapplication,youwillneed the following information: •Your name •Your legal signature •The address atwhichyou are registered tovote •Your date of birth • ONE of the following items showing proof of identification:Your Ohio Driver’s license number OR The last four digits ofyour Social SecurityNumber OR a copy of your current andvalid photo identification, military identification, OR current (within the last 12months) utilitybill (including cell phone bill),bankstatement,government check,paycheckor other government document that showsyour name and current address. NOTE:youmayNOTuse avoter registration acknowledgement notice that the board of electionsmailed toyou as proof of identification. • A statement identifying the election for which you are requesting an absenteevoter’s ballot •Astatement thatyou are a qualified elector • If you want the ballot to be mailed, the address towhichyouwant it mailed. Filling in your Absentee Ballot: Your absenteevoting packet includes: •Voter instructions •White Identification envelope • Official Ballot Return Envelope •“IVotedToday”sticker Please read all instructions carefully! • Check your ballot envelope for the correct postage to returnyour ballot bymail. • Use BLUE or BLACK INK to COMPLETELY SHADE IN THE OVALS next to the candidate /issue you wish to vote for. DO NOT (√) or (X) the ovals on your ballot – shade in ONLY. • If you choose to vote for a write-in candidate, complete the write-in section by shading in the oval andwriting the candidate’s name on the line. • COMPLETELY fill out the entire IDENTIFICATION ENVELOPE , along with your SIGNATURE . • Fold your voted ballot, and place inside the IDENTIFICATION ENVELOPE and seal. • Place the IDENTIFICATION ENVELOPE in the RETURN ENVELOPE and seal. MAKE SURE YOUR ABSENTEE BALLOT IS COUNTED!  Under Ohio law YOUR BALLOT WILL NOT BE COUNTED IF THE IDENTIFICATION ENVELOPE IS NOT COMPLETED, SIGNED AND RETURNED WITH THE BALLOT SEALED INSIDE THE IDENTIFICATION ENVELOPE. •The ballot must be RECEIVED by the Director of the Board of Elections no later than the close of the polls (7:30 p.m.) on Election Day in order to be counted on Election Day.Ballots can bemailed or hand delivered by the voter or a member of their immediate family.
