NIRAJ ANTANI (R) No response MARK FOGEL (D) BIO: Raised in Centerville,Mark served 12 years as anAir Force fighter pilot before returning home with his wife to raise their three kids. He works at GE, teaches at UD, and is a Lieutenant Colonel in the National Guard. ANSWER #1: As a military officer, I swore to defend our democracy, and as Senator, I will fight to ensure voting is free, fair, safe, and secure for all citizens. We must enact automatic voter registration, ensure postage is paid for ballots, increase drop box access, and reduce long lines. We must also fully fund election security, fraud detection efforts, and support our fully-trained poll workers.Voting is a cherished right I will protect. ANSWER #2: I’m a father, and I know the safety of Ohio’s families is paramount. In an emergency, with the consent of public health experts, state leaders should not be undermined in their duty. In this crisis, I supported our Health Director, Dr.Amy Acton. My opponent voted to undermine her, and is also part of the anti-vax movement. As your Senator, I will never play politics in the midst of a public health crisis. ANSWER #3: I’m the officially endorsed candidate of Ohio’s largest police and civil rights groups. They know I’ll work to combat systemic injustice while supporting our men and women in law enforcement. I want police training around implicit bias and de-escalation, and we must fundamentally re-examine our approach to mental health, social services, and addiction treatment in Ohio.As your Senator, I stand for justice, safety, and fairness. We deserve nothing less. MARSHALL G. LACHMAN BIO: I am a 1988 graduate of The Ohio State University College of Law. I have lived in the Miami Valley for the past twenty-five years and currently live in Centerville with my wife Amy, and our youngest daughter Abby. ANSWER #1: I have been a litigator for more than thirty years, having spent the last seventeen years in Ohio focusing on criminal defense litigation. I have tried hundreds of cases, handled more than one hundred appeals in the appellate court, and argued many times in the Ohio Supreme Court. I have earned the trust of clients, fellow attorneys, and judges, and am respected for the knowledge I have gained through my vast experience in the law. ANSWER #2: I deeply admire Judge Jeffrey Froelich and would choose him as my mentor as a judge. Having had the privilege to appear before him during his time as judge in both the trial court and the Court of Appeals, Judge Froelich demonstrates the knowledge and demeanor that I would want to emulate as a judge, and I would be honored to take his seat on the bench should I be fortunate to win in November. ANSWER #3: The Court of Appeals hears hundreds of cases each year. For most litigants, the decisions of this Court are their last resort and of vital importance.Judges sitting on the Court need to have a keen understanding of the law to make decisions that are fair and impartial. My extensive experience as a litigator and years of work in the Court of Appeals and the Ohio Supreme Court have provided me with this necessary understanding. Leadership and Involvement: Montgomery County Male Leadership Mentor, Dayton MLK March Co-Chairman,Volunteer with the Boys and Girls Club ANSWER #1: Ohio needs to have a universal vote-by-mail option, with multiple submission options. Voters also shouldn’t have to bear the cost of postage for their ballot, the Secretary of State should take care of the cost of postage. Expanding early voting would also help with the reduction of long lines and administration stress on Election Day. Expanding the days and hours along with the number of early voting locations could help with early voting turnout. ANSWER #2: As State Representative I would support legislation that involves the amount and kind of training required for police officers. Officers should be trained on how best to respond when situations involve individuals with mental health, substance use or behavioral health disorders.I would also support legislation that would assist law enforcement agencies in obtaining new technology such as body-worn cameras and drones, that could help with more accountability and better policing.
