  • Boys basketball team wins for fun

    Tied with Emmanuel Christian for number one in the Metro Buckeye Conference and holding up a 12–2 record three-fourths of the way through the season, this year’s Yellow Springs High School boys varsity basketball team has raised eyebrows. Having steadily improved their record each year since suffering a 3–16 season in 2007, the Bulldogs are charging into tournament time with ambitious sights set on state.

  • Two local swimmers aim for state

    Imagine a place where the air is hot and humid and the water is ice cold. The smell of chlorine fills the air along with the sounds of splashing water, buzzers, bells and sometimes even guns echoing through the natatorium. Hundreds of people, from swimmers, coaches, timers, officials and spectators, line the pool deck and bleachers.

    The Yellow Springs boys varsity basketball team bested league foe Dayton Christian 64–58 on the road on Friday, Jan. 29. The Bulldogs outscored the Warriors 44–29 in the second half to remain undefeated in the Metro Buckeye Conference, with a season record of 10–1.

    The YSHS boys basketball team tucked another win under its belt last week, overwhelming Miami Valley 62–32 on Friday, Jan. 22. The league win put the Bulldogs up 9–1 for the season and 6–0 in the Metro Buckeye Conference, where they currently stand in first place, one game ahead of Emmanuel Academy.

    The YSHS boys baksetball team was sailing through the season answering to no one until the Bulldogs went up against the Cedarville Indians on Saturday, Jan. 16, and had their first loss of the season 69–49.

  • Bulldog Sports Round-up

    Before the holiday break, the Yellow Springs girls basketball team lay down for Dayton Christian in a conference defeat 48–37 on Dec. 21. The loss puts the Lady Bulldogs at 3–3 to start the new year. Recreational youth basketball for girls and boys will begin Saturday, Jan. 9 at the John Bryan Community Center Gym, and will continue on Saturdays through March 6. The league is free and open to all community girls and boys.

  • Alumni tourney winners

    This year’s Yellow Springs High School alumni basketball tournament ended in another battle between the classes of 2004 and 2002–2003, with the class of ’04 winning for the second consecutive year. The 2004 team was led by Jordan Skinner, Anthony Brandon, and Rory Hotaling, all of whom made the all-tournament team.

    The Lady Bulldogs basketball team achieved a convincing 50–32 victory over Xenia Christian on Monday, Dec. 14, before edging out Jefferson 52–41 on Thursday, Dec. 17. The wins take the girls team to a winning record of 3–2.

    The YSHS boys basketball team shocked Dayton Stivers in non-conference play with an 81–72 win on Saturday, Dec 12. The Bulldogs handily beat Metro Buckeye conference foe Middletown Christian 94–59 on Friday, Dec. 11, and moved their season record to 3–0.
