        boys split two games
The McKinney School boys basketball team split its first two games of
the year last week, with an 1825 loss to Cedarville and a 3529
        win against Jefferson.
On Wednesday, Dec. 4, the Cedarville Indians took control of the second
half of the game to win.
We started out playing a very patient and level headed in the first
half and lost our composure in the second half, coach Shirley Martin
        said.
Kilan Brown led the Bulldogs with 8 points. James Butler scored 4 and
Kyle Buchwalder, Peter Lovering and Andrew Ferguson each had 2.
Three days later, on Saturday, Dec. 7, the Bulldogs defeated their hosts,
the Jefferson Colts, evening their record at 11.
McKinney played a better unified and defensive game, Martin
        said.
Brown led the team with 21 points. Ben Welsh scored 6, Todd Sheets had
4 and Kumar Jensen and Andy Peters each scored 2.

 Bulldogs
        claim two wins
In a busy weekend, the YSHS varsity boys basketball team claimed two more
wins, first on Friday, Dec. 6, against Troy Christian, 7159, and
then on Saturday, Dec. 7, against longtime rival the Oakwood Lumberjacks,
        8059.
The key to both victories, YSHS coach Brad Newsome said, was defensive
        pressure and good transitions.
In Fridays match, Brent Robinson led the Bulldogs with 25 points,
five rebounds, four steals and three assists. Dustin Rudegeair followed
with 13 points and 11 rebounds, Andrew Richlen had 12 points and 10 rebounds
and Jordan Skinner, 8 points and eight rebounds.
In addition to a strong offensive effort, the Bulldogs, who were playing
on the road were able to maintain control of the court defensively.
We were able to keep Troy Christian off balance with our transitions,
and were able to force turnovers, he said. We played with
        a high level of intensity.
Twenty-four hours later, the Bulldogs hit the court again, this time with
the Oakwood Lumberjacks, who YSHS hadnt defeated in several years.
At tip-off the Lumberjacks took control of the ball and took the lead,
which they held for 15 seconds.
Rudegeair, who led the Dogs in scoring, sunk a three-pointer, which
he followed up with a two-point basketball after a steal. Oakwood lagged
behind for the rest of the game, at one point coming within 5 points but
never pulling ahead of the Bulldogs.
Rudegeair made 19 of his team-high 22 points in the first half. He also
        had 12 rebounds.
That might be the best half Ive ever seen him play,
        Newsome said.
Anthony Brandon scored 13 points in the second half. Robinson scored 12
        and Skinner had 10.
 The Bulldogs are now 31.

 YSHS
        falls to Jefferson
The YSHS girls basketball team lost to their hosts, the Jefferson High
Colts, 3565, on Saturday, Dec. 7.
The move dropped the squads record this year to 12.
Though the Lady Bulldogs trailed throughout the first half, Jefferson
pulled away in the third quarter, when, as sophomore Evin Wimberly, the
leading scorer for YSHS, sat on the bench with four fouls, Jefferson outscored
        YSHS 245.
In reality, we only had one really bad quarter, the third,
        coach Shirley Cummins said.
We just need to keep working on our skills, break our bad habits
and learn to believe in ourselves and what we can accomplish, she
        said.
Wimberly led the Lady Bulldogs with 26 points and seven steals. She sank
two three-point baskets. This is her second game in which she has scored
        more than 20 points.
Evin is unbelievable and a great team player, said Cummins.
In addition, junior Dana Ingham scored 4 points, senior Ashlee Cooper
had 2 and senior Mary Keefe and sophomores Tricia McLinden and Jesslyn
Yelton each had 1. Sarah Finn had two blocks.
The Colts were led by Evien Buckmen, who also had 26 points.
The Lady Bulldogs match against Cincinnati Christian on Thursday,
Dec. 5, was canceled due to snow. It is tentatively rescheduled for Saturday,
Dec. 21, the time still to be announced.
