William
Arnold
William M. Arnold of Yellow
Springs, formerly of Enon, died on Monday, Jan. 5, in Friends Care Community.
He was 84.
Born Jan. 19, 1919, in Charlton,
N.Y., he was the son of John and Emma (Baker) Arnold.
He graduated from Burnt Hills-Ballston
Lake High School in 1937 and Cobleskill School of Agriculture in 1940
and received a B.S. in education from Central State University in 1973.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II, the Korean War and
the Vietnam War, retiring at the rank of lieutenant colonel in 1968 after
27 years of service.
Following retirement from
the Air Force, he worked for Muncy Corporation for two years and Kreider
Corporation for nine. Mr. Arnold was a member of First Presbyterian Church
in Fairborn, the Clark County Audubon Society and Warren Lodge 147 Free
and Accepted Masons. He was named Enon’s “Citizen of the Year”
in 1999. He volunteered with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources
for 16 years. In recognition the Bill Arnold Interpretative Trail was
dedicated in June 2003 in the Gallagher Fen in Clark County.
He was preceded in death by
his parents; a sister, Marian A. Brinkman; brother, Harvey Arnold; and
a grandson, Karl William Brown.
He is survived by his wife
of 58 years, Frances D. Arnold; three children and their spouses, Llewellyn
Arnold and Sue Colwell-Arnold of Enon, Thomas and Kathryn D. Arnold of
Elida and Marcia A. and Kelly E. Brown of Fredericktown; grandchildren,
Laura and Mike Williams, Josh Arnold, Caleb Arnold, Andy Arnold, Michael
Arnold, Tony Arnold, Ross Brown, Neil Brown and Maggie Brown; and two
great-grandchildren, Cody and Kaylee Williams.
Memorial services
were held Saturday, Jan. 17, in the First Presbyterian Church in Fairborn.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton
or the Fairborn First Presbyterian Church.
Maxine Archbold
Maxine W. Archbold of Fairborn
died on Tuesday, Jan. 20, in her son’s residence in Enon. She was
75.
Born on March 20, 1928, in
Yellow Springs, she was the daughter of Thomas and Norma Brown Donley.
She was a member of St. Paul
Catholic Church of Yellow Springs. She enjoyed spending time with her
family and friends, and was always willing to help others in need and
be there for her children.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; her husband, Howard Robert Archbold, whom she married
Sept. 30, 1946; and a brother, Gene Donley.
She is survived by four children,
Linda Archbold of Springfield, Tom Archbold of New Carlisle, Kathy Carey
of Beavercreek and Tim Archbold of Enon; seven grandchildren, Tina and
Angela Brown, Robbie, Amanda, Ben and Jacob Archbold and Tarany Allison;
six great-grandchildren, Raymond, Angelo, Joey, Emily, Kalli and Chloe;
two sisters, Virginia Trinkler and Marie Corrigan; and a brother, Richard
Donley.
The family will accept
family and friends Friday, Jan. 23, 9–10:30 a.m., in Adkins Funeral
Home, 7055 Dayton Road in Enon. A mass of Christian burial will be held
Jan. 23, at 11 a.m., in St. Paul Catholic Church in Yellow Springs, with
Fr. Joseph Raudabaugh officiating. Burial will follow in St. Paul Cemetery.
Jane Funderburg
Jane (DeWine) Funderburg of
Yellow Springs died Friday, Jan. 16, in Mercy Medical Center in Springfield.
She was 80.
A lifelong resident of Yellow
Springs, she was the daughter of Robert H. DeWine Sr. and Marie (Coakley)
DeWine.
She was preceded in death
by her parents.
She is survived by her husband,
Robert M. Funderburg; sons, Bob, Lee and Pat, all of Yellow Springs; granddaughter,
Laura Funderburg of Springfield; brother and sister-in-law, Robert H.
DeWine Jr. and Patricia DeWine of Beavercreek; a sister and brother-in-law,
Shirley DeWine Walsh and James P. Walsh of Yellow Springs; and several
nephews and a niece.
Funeral services
were held on Tuesday, Jan. 20, in the Jackson Lytle and Williams Funeral
Home in Yellow Springs.
Howard Evans Sr.
Howard J. Evans Sr. of Springfield
died Tuesday, Jan. 13, in Mercy Medical Center. He was 79.
Born on Nov. 22, 1924, in
Clifton, he was the son of James and Mabel (Rice) Evans.
Mr. Evans was a former member
of the Moose, enjoyed fishing and was an avid baseball fan. He retired
from International Harvester and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during
World War II.
He was preceded in death by
his parents, six brothers and five sisters.
He is survived by his wife
of 58 years, Virginia (Tingley) Evans; three children and their spouses,
Jean Ann and Douglas King of Georgia, Diana Marie and Neil Cooper of Illinois
and Howard and Lori Evans Jr. of California; grandchildren, Adam Cooper,
Ryan and Krista Cooper, Cynthia and Anthony Burns, Jennifer Evans and
Alicia Evans; and two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Samantha Burns.
Funeral services were held
on Saturday, Jan. 17, in Rose Hill Chapel in Springfield, with burial
following in Rose Hill Burial Park.
Terry Wilson
Terry L. Wilson of Springfield
died on Friday, Jan. 16, in the Ohio State University Medical Center in
Columbus. He was 56.
Born on Nov. 30, 1947, in
Springfield, he was the son of Leonard and Doris (Inskeep) Wilson.
He graduated from Springfield
South High School in 1966. He married his wife, Beverly (Mahoney) Wilson,
on June 8, 1968. He worked for Morris Bean & Company for 35 years
until his retirement in 2002.
He was preceded in death by
his parents; Phyllis Fisher; and his granddaughter, Miranda Marie Michael,x
on Oct. 27, 2002.
He is survived by his wife;
daughters and son-in-law, Lisa and Vince Michael of Springfield and Stacey
Zettel and her fiancé, Ethan Thomas; four grandsons, Vinny, Jeremy,
Jacob and Sammy; sisters, Carolyn Balsiger and Barbara Lookabaugh; and
brother, Alan Fisher.
Services were held Wednesday,
Jan. 21, in the Jackson Lytle & Williams Funeral Home in Springfield,
with burial in Rose Hill Burial Park in Springfield.
