OBITUARIES
Martha Ann Goodin
Martha Ann Goodin of Xenia died on Nov. 17. She was 78. She was born
July 19, 1929, in Xenia, the daughter of Robert and Nannie Sue (Willis)
Hurst.
She was a member of Middle Run Baptist Church and was retired from
Vernay Laboratories.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Vita Moore;
a son, Michael Williams; and a special aunt, Lelah Finch.
She is survived by her granddaughter, Thi-Sha Rockholder of Trotwood;
son-in-law, James Moore of Xenia; half-brothers Robert Hurst of Springfield
and Byron Hurst of Dayton; aunt, Joanne Hurst Reynolds of Washington
D.C.; special friend, Brenda McCoy of Huber Heights; special cousin,
Linda Green of Xenia, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Harold D. Flatter
Harold D. Flatter of Fairborn died on Nov. 25. He was 87.
He was born Jan. 23, 1920, the son of the late Earl and Elizabeth
(Trollinger) Flatter. Harold was a lifetime farmer and breeder of registered
Hereford cattle.
He was a lifelong member of the Greene County Farm Bureau and the
Byron Church. Harold served as a school bus driver for Fairborn City
Schools for 35 years and on the Bath Township Zoning Board for over
30 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his
wife of 58 years, Ruth, in 2001; and a brother, Richard Flatter.
He is survived by three children, Barbara Singleton and husband Marvin
of Fairborn, Judy Cooper and husband Chester of Xenia and Gerald Flatter
and wife Sharon of Yellow Springs; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren;
two sisters, Juanita Morgan of Fairborn and Dora Mae Riggle and husband
Les of Kettering; and a brother, Joe Flatter and wife Betty of Fairborn.
A funeral service was held Nov. 29 at the Byron Church with interment
at the Byron Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Byron Church
in Harold’s memory.
Estella Jones
Estella H. (Hall) Jones of Yellow Springs died Monday, Dec. 3, in
Greene Memorial Hospital. She was 80.
She was born Feb. 13, 1927, in Cedarville, the daughter of Charles
and Jennie Hall. She was a member of First Baptist Church and retired
from Antioch College.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Jonathan Jones
Sr., and two sisters. She is survived by seven children, Julia (Dale)
Harris of Yellow Springs, Jonathan Jr. ( Janice) Jones of Scottsdale,
Ariz., Joyce (James) Harding of Yellow Springs, Jennifer Ward of Xenia,
James Jones of South Charleston, Jeffrey Jones of Selma, Ohio, and Janice
Jones of Yellow Springs; 18 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren;
one brother, Charles Hall of South Charleston, Ohio, two sisters, Grace
Johnson of Selma, Ohio, and Reva (Robert) Douglas of Yellow Springs;
numerous nieces and nephews and a host of cousins and friends; and special
friend Francis Hill of Friends Care Community.
Visitation will be held 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 6, in the Ingling
Williams Funeral Home, Cedarville. The funeral service will be held
11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 7, in the First Baptist Church of Yellow Springs,
with burial to follow in Clifton Cemetery.
Charles Hatcher
Charles Hatcher, a former vice president/treasurer for Vernay Laboratories,
died Nov. 29 at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati. He was 87. He is survived
by his wife, Elizabeth; children, Charles Oxley Hatcher (Ruth) and Laura
Elizabeth Attenborough (Bruce); grandchildren, Frederick Attenborough,
Charles Bennett, Robert Wesley and Corrine Hatcher; and was loved by
a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation will be Saturday,
Dec. 8, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. followed by funeral service at St.
Andrews Episcopal Church, 1809 Rutland, Evanston. Donations in lieu
of flowers may be made to St. Andrews Episcopal Church.
Comegys service
A spiritual service for longtime village resident Elaine E. Comegys,
who died Nov. 22, Thanksgiving Day, will take place on Saturday, Dec.
8, at 2 p.m. in the Glen Helen Building.
