Cyclists, soccer tournament brings heavy traffic to village

Yellow Springs will be the hub of several major events this weekend, July 18–20, giving rise to more than the usual amount of foot and automobile traffic, as well as a road closure, according to a statement by Karen Wintrow, president of the Yellow Springs Chamber of Commerce.

Two bicycling events are slated to come through town. Beginning Friday, July 18, bikers in the Greene Trails Cycling Classic will head into Yellow Springs throughout the entire weekend.

On Saturday, July 19, the Ohio State Road Race Championships will start and finish on Corry Street, which will be closed off to traffic all of Saturday from Keith’s Alley to Allen Street. Personnel will be stationed to allow access into the Glen parking lot from Limestone, but cars will not be allowed on Corry Street, and will be detoured down Allen Street to Xenia Avenue or Livermore Street.

The weekend also ushers in the First Annual Yellow Springs High School Boys Soccer Team Pre-Season Tournament, hosted by Yellow Springs High School. The tournament runs through Sunday, July 20, at the YSHS fields. Tournament traffic will translate into many more cars and feet traversing the streets and sidewalks.

Finally, the aviation Barnstorming Carnival, Saturday and Sunday, July 19–20, at Springfield Beckley Airport, is expected to bring a greater amount of through-traffic to the village as well.
