‘Gussie’ Nosker

Augusta “Gussie” Nosker, age 86, a resident of Yellow Springs for 65 years, passed away Tuesday, March 4, at Trinity Retirement Community of Beavercreek.

Gussie was raised in Birch River, West Virginia, then moved to Parkersburg to attend business college. After completing her schooling she accepted a position in the offices of Antioch College. Antioch College is where Gussie (Justice) met Lowell Z. Nosker, the youngest son of the late Antioch College professor Charles A. Nosker and Antioch College student Carrie Zehner Nosker. Gussie and Lowell married on August 23, 1946, at the Yellow Springs Methodist Church and lived in Yellow Springs for the 40 years they were married. During these years they raised their two children as well as being active in the community and their church. Gussie retired from Antioch College in the early 1980’s.

Gussie was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell; sisters, Helen Burrough and Maxine Moore; and brother, Ireland Justice, Jr. She is survived by her son, Lawrence (Joyce) Nosker; daughter, Julia (Richard) Mercer; granddaughter, Elizabeth Nosker; grandsons, Jonathan and Patrick Mercer; brother, Mathew Leonard (Shirley) Justice; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation and funeral were on Friday March 7, at the Yellow Springs United Methodist Church, with Pastor Charles W. Hill officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton or the Yellow Springs United Methodist Church. Condolences to her family may be made at http://www.tobiasfuneralhome.com .
