Martha Derrick

Martha J. “Marty” Derrick of Xenia died Tuesday, Feb. 26, at the Greenewood Manor. She was 84.

She was born March 31, 1923, in Yellow Springs, the daughter of Elias and Katie (Stull) Harness.

Marty had been employed with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and retired after 20-plus years with the Air National Guard in Springfield. She sold Avon and Radell and helped with the township fire department which her husband established.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 59 years, William J. “Bill” Derrick in 2001; and two brothers and a sister.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Thomas W. and Susan Derrick of Lawrenceburg, Ind., and David and Joette Derrick of Xenia; five grandchildren and their spouses; four great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Norma Derrick of Xenia; two nieces, Florence Dihrkop of Yellow Springs and Jean Sprigg, Xenia; as well as other relatives and a host of friends.

A private family graveside service was held at Woodland Cemetery, Xenia. The family request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Xenia Township Firefighters, 8 Brush Row Road, Xenia, OH 45385 in Marty’s name.
