Barbara Esther Greene Cornell, age 88, died in Ithaca, New York, on August 28. She passed away peacefully in the company of her children following a long illness. Barbara was born on May 17, 1921, in Jefferson, Ohio, the daughter of Oakley and Ella Greene. She arrived in Ithaca in 2002, after bringing up her children with her husband in Yellow Springs and Brockport, N.Y. Barbara was known for her exceptional kindness to others and her commitments to her family, church and community. In later years, she cared deeply about her friends at Kendal at Ithaca.

Survivors include her children: Sarah Cornell of Paris, France; Deborah (Roger) Loring, of Ithaca, N.Y.; David (Ruth) Cornell, of Highpoint, N.C.; her grandchildren Susannah, Nathan, and Tian Cornell and Matthew Loring; her great grandchild Alex, and other treasured relatives. Barbara was predeceased by her beloved husband of 52 years, George W. Cornell; her sister, Shirley Bowers of Painesville, Ohio, and her brother, Walter Greene of Austinburg, Ohio.

In remembrance of Barbara, donations may be made to the Yellow Springs United Methodist Church, 202 S. Winter Street, Yellow Springs, OH 45387.
