Mildred Alice (Neer) Engle died at her home in St. Petersburg, Fla., on Dec. 24. She was 87.
Mildred was born July 13, 1923, in Champaign County, Ohio, to Lester William and Goldie Faulkner Neer. She was married in 1946 to Ernest Lee Engle, who preceded her in death in March of 2003. She was the well-loved center of her family, an avid needleworker, reader and enthusiastic card and Scrabble player to the end. She retired from Olin Corporation in 1994, and worked for Antioch College for many years. She regularly knitted caps for hospital newborns and made blankets for Project Linus, and previously volunteered at Suncoast Hospice. She was a longtime member of Pasadena Community Church in St. Petersburg.
Mildred is deeply missed by daughter Cynthia Nelson and Jim Boles of Aurora, Colo., daughter Sue Engle of Columbus, daughter Peggy Christopoulos and Stosh Christopoulos of Highland Park, Ill. and daughter Amy Zepp and Scott Zepp of Largo, Fla. She is also survived by nine grandsons: Douglas and Andy Jalving and David Nelson of Denver, Colo., Benjamin Sostrom of Columbus, Ryan Christopoulos of Evanston, Ill., Nicholas Christopoulos of Highland Park and Nolan, Hayden and Grayson Zepp of Largo. Her sisters, Doris Neer and Mary Skiles of Tuscon, Ariz., and her brother Charles Neer and Rosalind Neer of Dublin, Ohio, survive her, along with many nieces, nephews and numerous dear friends.
A memorial service will be held at Pasadena Community Church in March. The family requests donations to Suncoast Hospice or Project Linus in lieu of flowers.
