Yellow Springs resident Judy Belle Jones quietly died Friday April 27. She was 79 years old.
Before moving to Yellow Springs in April 2011, Judy was a 20-year resident of Warsaw, Ky. While living in Warsaw, Mrs. Jones taught G.E.D classes for the county and was also very active with the Gallatin County Humane Society.
Before moving to Kentucky, Judy worked as a contractor in the tech library at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. At the age of 71, she finally achieved her goal of finishing her college education when she graduated from Northern Kentucky University in 2003. She was an avid sculptor, painter and writer; she wrote five articles for the Northern Kentucky Encyclopedia that was published in 2009.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton, her mother, Dorothy Butler, and her aunt and uncle, Jack and Hilma Schlanser. She is survived by her sons Kevin and Terry Jones, grandson Michael Jones and daughters-in-law Valerie Jones and Mary Jones.
As Judy gave so much, she will also be giving back to the community by donating her worldly body to the Boonshoft School of Medicine at Wright State University.
A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, May 5, 4–7 p.m. at her home at 5 Aspen Court in Yellow Springs. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any contributions in her memory be sent to Adopt A Cat Shelter, 17319 Bamwood, Houston, Texas 77090.
