2012 Fourth of July festivities

Yellow Springs will celebrate Independence day with a parade, a patriotic band concert and, of course, fireworks.

Parade
The Fourth of July parade will line up beginning at 2:30 p.m. on the curved drive behind Friends Care Center on Wednesday, July 4. The parade begins at 3:30 p.m. All are invited to join the parade. For more information, contact Todd Van Lehn at 767-1064 or 239-8462.

Band concert
The YS Community Band will present a Fourth of July concert on Wednesday, July 4, beginning at 8 p.m. at Gaunt Park. The band will perform medleys of American folk tunes, meditative and patriotic works and favorite marches by Sousa and others. The performance will precede the annual fireworks display. Those attending are encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chair.

Fireworks
The annual fireworks display will begin at 9:30 p.m. in Gaunt Park. Get there early to get a good spot.

Bring lots of water!
Because of the extreme heat, it is recommended that parade marchers, watchers and  fireworks attendees bring lots of liquids — preferably water — to avoid heat exhaustion or stroke. Symptoms include profuse sweating, weakness, nausea, vomiting, headache, lightheadedness, and muscle cramps. EMT crews will be in attendance along the parade route as well as at Gaunt Park.
