Local residents buy Barr property

Local residents Jim and Libby Hammond purchased the Barr property last week from Friends Care Community. Buckeye Community Hope Foundation had held an option to purchase the property with Home, Inc. but released the option when financing fell through for the senior apartments the organizations had planned to build together.
Jim Hammond said earlier this week that he and his family had not decided exactly what to do with the property, except that it would be something beneficial to the community. The couple plans to work most immediately on cleaning up the property and evaluating the condition of the historic Barr house. Hammond led the restoration project at the Grinnell Mill in 2003 and is still involved in its operation as a bed and breakfast and historic museum.
