Ruth Bayless

Ruth Bayless of Yellow Springs died at Friends Care Community on Saturday, Dec. 1. She was 84.

Ruth was born Sept. 1, 1928 in Chewton, Pa., the daughter of William and Imogene Goatley. Ruth met her husband of 62 years; Norris L. Bayless, while a student at Central State University where she earned a degree in business education. Before her retirement, Ruth worked as the office manager for AFL-CIO, Local 801 in Dayton.

Ruth was a member of First Baptist Church of Yellow Springs where she served on the usher board and was the financial secretary. She was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Wilberforce Chapter of Links, Inc., Eastern Star Chapter No. 2, Akbar Court No. 33 Daughters of Isis, Twentieth Century Club and Les Voguettes Social Club. Ruth was an avid camper and a charter member of The Buckeye Explorers Camping Club. Her hobbies included ceramics and doll making.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her infant daughters, Karen and Donna; her sisters, Katherine Goatley and Marguerite Goatley Miller and three brothers, Leonard, Wendell and William Goatley.

Ruth leaves to cherish her memory, her husband; two sisters Mary Lynn McClanahan of Lancaster, California and Winifred Daniel of Niles, Ohio; two brothers-in- laws, Paul Bayless of Columbus, Ohio, Robert (Edna) Bayless of Marietta, Georgia; a host of nieces (including Yvonne ‘’Bonnie’’ Goatley of Elwood City, Pa. and Miriam Harshaw of Springfield), nephews, cousins and friends.

Services for Ruth Bayless were held Saturday, Dec. 8 at First Baptist Church in Yellow Springs, with Reverend William Randolph officiating. Interment followed at Valley View Memorial Gardens in Beavercreek. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Yellow Springs or the Alzheimer’s Association, Miami Valley Chapter, 3797 Summit Glen Drive, Suite G100, Dayton, OH 45449.
