Elsie Hevelin

Elsie Owen Hevelin of Yellow Springs passed away Friday, July 19, at Friends Care Community. She was 90.
Elsie was born in Philadelphia, Pa. on May 5, 1923, to Gwilym and Edith Owen. Elsie was an English teacher with many interests, including Antioch College, dog breeding and politics. She was a very active member of the Shakespeare Club and was a master gardener. Elsie was a dedicated member and volunteer of the Yellow Springs Senior Center, where she belonged to the knitting club and the quilters club. The Senior Center’s homemaker services helped her to remain at home until her final illness.
Elsie was the mother of John Hevelin, Scott Hevelin (deceased), Bruce Hevelin, and Will Forest; the grandmother of Sarah Babcock, Kelsey Forest and Owen Forest; and the sister of Tom Owen (deceased) and Gwil Owen, Jr.
Elsie also leaves to cherish her memory her friends Peggy Campbell, David Farrell, Teresa Bondurant and many others. Elsie was a longtime resident of Yellow Springs. She loved her town and the many friends she made over the years.
No memorial service has yet been scheduled, but several local organizations are working together to get one planned. Details will be determined and announced later. Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Yellow Springs Senior Center.
