The Yellow Springs Board of Education once again has decided to close village schools Tuesday, Jan. 21 due to snow, slick road conditions and severely cold weather.
As of 8 a.m., the Antioch School remains on a two-hour delay.
The Yellow Springs Children’s Center has not yet provided notification of its status, and is assumed to be operating under normal hours.
The National Weather Service warns that after last nights snowfall of blowing snow, making roads in open areas inconsistent and unsafe. There is a slight chance of more snow after noon today.
Temperatures will fall to around 10 by 5 p.m.; a north wind of about mph with gusts as high as 32 mph makes wind chill a factor, with values as low as -7.
The low temperatures combined with wind gusts pose a severe risk of frostbite to exposed skin in 15 minutes or less of exposure. Stay indoors or cover up exposed skin if venturing outside.
Village police and Miami Township Fire Rescue will make rounds to check on people with known care issues. If you are concerned about someone’s welfare, please call the police so that they may check on them.
If you have no heat or are suffering from exposure-related issues, call 911. Please note that it is illegal for electric and gas providers to turn off services if the temperature falls below freezing.
