- Published: October 16, 2014
At a loss to those who loved her, Mary Peterson, of Yellow Springs, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Sept. 27. She passed at home with family members at her side.
Mary was born March 20, 1937 in London, Ohio, to Ernest and Geneva (Lane) Lowery. Mary retired after a many years of service from Yellow Springs Instrument Co. and later worked for Yellow Springs Senior Citizens, assisting others in the community. Mary was very strong in her faith and an active member of St. Paul AME Church, Cedarville.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, William, Donald and Richard Lowery; and son Erwin Peterson.
Mary is survived by her daughters, D’Vita (Jack) Frankin and Robin Walker; and by sons Marshall (Julie) Peterson and Tyron Peterson. She is survived by her sisters, Vivian Sinkford, of London, Ohio, and Beverly (Edward) Poindexter, of Bellefontaine; brothers Norman Lowery, of London, and Phillip (Alice) Lowery, of Columbus; as well as several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends, including her lifelong best friend Joyce Payne, of London, and her beloved pet, Beauty.
Mary did not know a stranger, treated everyone as family, and was loved by all those who knew her. Her passing, while a blessing, has left many with heavy hearts.
At Mary’s request, there will not be formal memorial services, and in lieu of flowers, the family respectfully request donations be made to St. Paul AME Church, 98 W. Cedar St. Cedarville, OH 45314. A celebration of Mary’s life in song will be scheduled at a later date.
