Mary Julia Alexander

Mary Julia (Adams), Alexander, 77, passed away October 1, 2014. Mary, daughter of Ivanora (Howard) and Richard Adams, was born April 25, 1937 in Xenia, OH. 

Mary attended Xenia public schools and was a graduate of Xenia East High School. in 1955. She later obtained her Bachelor of Arts Degree in business management from Antioch University McGregor, Yellow Springs, OH. Mary spent most of her adult life in Yellow Springs, where she was involved in various endeavors. When she wasn’t caring for her family she worked at the Yellow Springs Public Library and at Klein Associates, and served on the Village Council. For several years Mary ran MJ’s Typing Service and provided village and surrounding area residents with professional publishing services. Mary also enjoyed baking and crocheting gifts for family and friends. 

Mary was a child of God and is a past member of Zion Baptist Church (Xenia, OH) and Second Missionary Baptist Church (Springfield, OH): At the time of her passing she was a member of Broadway Baptist Church (Louisville), a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and the Moles.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband William Edward Ryder Alexander, and brother Richard Broadice Adams. 

She leaves to mourn her death her children Noreda, William, Norman, and Ivanora; grandchildren Michael David, Isis Alma Inda, Hunter Jacob, and William Edward Ill; brother Howard Adams, Sr.,  sister Phyllis (Sylvanus) Smith, aunt Katherine (Howard) Anderson and uncle Donald (Janice) Howard; brother-in-law Jesse Alexander, brother-in-law George (Norma) Alexander, sister-in-law Emma (Brady) Melton, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. 

Funeral service was held Wednesday, Oct. 8, at Broadway Baptist Church, followed by graveside services at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery, near Fort Knox, Ky. Expressions of sympathy can be made to the scholarship fund of the Louisville Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
