Marilyn (Kelley) Dowdell

Marilyn (Kelley) Dowdell, of Yellow Springs, passed away peacefully at Miami Valley Hospital on Dec. 31. She was 75.

Born on Sept. 17, 1939, in Richmond, Ind., Marilyn was the daughter of Harold and Elizabeth (Rile) Kelley, both deceased. She is survived by her husband, Joseph Dowdell, whom she met at Miami University where they were both students. Marilyn received her Bachelor of Science degree in business administration in 1974 from Central State University and served for 20 years as treasurer of the Yellow Springs School District, from which she retired in 2000.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Harold (Bill) Kelley, of Indianapolis and an aunt, Helen (Kelley) Collier, of Dayton.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughters Jennifer Dowdell of San Francisco, Calif., and Jacqueline Dowdell of Ithaca, N.Y. Other survivors include an uncle, Thomas Kelley, of Wilberforce; cousins Ronald Bass of Richmond, Ind., Robert Collier of Dayton, Carol Kelley of Newtonville, Mass., and Thomas Kelley Jr. of Clayton; and nieces Yvonne (Kelley) Logan of Madisonville, Ky. and Natalie (Kelley) Hooks of Louisville, Ky.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date. The family suggests donations to Yellow Springs Senior Center, UNCF, the First Presbyterian Church of Yellow Springs or another charity in lieu of flowers.
