Robert Murphy Jr.

Mr. Robert Murphy Jr., was born in Detroit, Mich. on April 20, 1931. He resided in Greene County for 52 years. He departed this life early on the morning of Thursday, Jan. 15, at Greene Memorial Hospital. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Sr., and Ruth Hazel (Posey) Murphy, and two brothers, Charles and Frank.

Robert accepted the Lord as savior in 1961 and has been a faithful member of Bethel Temple Church in Xenia since 1962. He served as deacon, was a former Sunday school superintendent and was a teacher of an adult class. Robert is survived by his wife of 52 years, Neila; two sons, Robert III (Karen) Murphy of Xenia and Tim (Glenda) Murphy of Freeland, Mich.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; four sisters, Theresa (James) Cochran, Christine Murphy, Elsie Martin and Henrietta Watt, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Robert served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He graduated from Cleary College in Ypsilanti, Mich., with a degree in accounting and worked at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base for 30 years.

After retirement, Mr. Murphy was a frequent vendor at the Yellow Springs Farmers Market for many years. He loved to study the Bible, read and garden.

A memorial service was held Tuesday, Jan. 20, at McColaugh Funeral Home in Xenia. Robert was interred at the Valley View Memorial Gardens privately. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to Bethel Temple Church, Xenia; New Life Christian Assembly, Xenia or the Xenia Adult Recreation Center, Xenia.
