Yellow Springs schools on two-hour delay Thursday Feb. 5
- Published: February 5, 2015
The Yellow Springs Board of Education decided at 5:45 a.m. this morning to delay village schools by two hours Thursday, Feb. 5 due to snow and slick roadway conditions.
The combination of snow and sub-freezing surface temperatures could result in slick spots on area roadways this morning. Most of the slick spots will likely be on secondary untreated and less traveled roadways, parking lots and sidewalks.
The National Weather Service states that Thursday will be mostly cloudy through mid morning, with gradual clearing and a high near 19°F. Wind chill values may be as low as zero. Temperatures are expected to drop towards the evening to a low of about 12°F; please check with your school or organizing individuals for cancellations or delays of after-school activities.
As of 6 a.m. Monday morning, the Antioch School and the Children’s Center have not yet indicated a change in schedule.
Welfare checks:
Roadways and walkways are icy; Village police and Miami Township Fire Rescue will make rounds to check on people with known care issues. If you are concerned about someone’s welfare, please call the police so that they may check on them.
If you have no heat or are suffering from exposure-related issues, call 911. Please note that it is illegal for electric and gas providers to turn off services if the temperature falls below freezing.
