Voters approve Yellow Springs school district levy
- Published: May 7, 2015
The community expressed resounding support for local schools this week, approving a renewal of the district’s 8.05-mill emergency operating levy. While just over 19 percent of school district voters came to the polls Tuesday, over 87 percent, or 630, voted in favor of the levy. Twelve percent, or 90 people, voted against the measure.
The levy is not a tax increase and will generate the same annual revenue of $1.06 million as it has for the past 16 years. The income provides 13 percent of the district’s operating budget. The current renewal will last 10 years, instead of its previous five-year schedule, and will continue to cost $247 per $100,000 in property value each year.
