Ruby Nicholson

111215_ruby-nicholsonRuby Evangeline Wells Nicholson died peacefully the evening of Oct. 31, 2015. She was 105 years, five months and four days old. She is survived by her daughter, Jane Nicholson Scott; her son-in-law, Robert J. Scott; and her grandsons, Seth. E. Scott and his wife Lucie and Grant N. Scott and his wife Melissa.

Ruby enjoyed a 39-year teaching career that began in Casey County, Ky., in one- and two-room schools that she accessed by horseback. During World War II she taught a semester of high school English and botany in Forkland, Ky. The remainder of her teaching years, 1948–1975, were with the fifth grade in Nelson County schools in Bardstown, Ky. She loved flowers, gardening and, above all, the wonders of nature. She spent many hours of her twilight years in the beauty of John Bryan State Park in her home of Yellow Springs and traveling the back country roads of Greene County. Her memory will be honored by a private family gathering.
