Charles Funderburk

Charlie earned his Ph.D. from the University of Iowa and specialized in the U.S. presidency, elections, American politics and political corruption. He was the catalyst for two significant collaborative projects in his department at Wright State University. He taught there for 44 years. Charlie was a consummate colleague, a great listener, model teacher, active scholar and and stellar mentor.

Charlie loved music, played guitar and enjoyed concerts. He was very much a family man, arranging travel plans and other events for the family to enjoy together.

He died Nov. 16, 2016, after an extended period of care at Friends Care Community, following a stroke. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Reena Appell and his two sons, Scott Funderburk, with wife Kate and granddaughter Emily Rose; and Brent, with partner Erin Kane.

A memorial service was held at the Glen Helen Building on Sunday, Nov. 27.
