John V. Lakes

John was born Feb. 15, 1929, in Hamilton, Ohio, the son of John and Bessie (Wells) Lakes. He was a 1947 graduate of Hamilton High School and married Ruth Arvin on June 21, 1947, in Hamilton, and she preceded him in death on Feb. 12, 2015. John had been employed as a tool and die maker at Pitney-Bowes and retired from General Motors in Dayton.
John was a resident of Friends Care Community for the last two-and-a-half years, most recently in the assisted living facility. He loved Friends Care, loved his caregivers there and loved Yellow Springs. While living at Friends Care, he made many friends and had a great end of life.
John is survived by two daughters, Wendy (Joseph) Bassil, of Springboro, and Johnetta Kitzmiller, of Yellow Springs; five grandchildren, Rebekah (Micah) Green, Philip (Jessica) Bassil, Sarah (Matt) Winter, Rachel Bassil and James Kitzmiller; and four great-grandchildren, as well as a special niece, Cynthia Lakes. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, brothers, Clyde, Raymon and Jerry Lakes and three sisters, Lucille Holcomb, Mabel Ponder and Geneva Blythe.
Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 30, at Weigel Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jacob Flannery officiating. Burial followed in Greenwood Cemetery.
