Fifteen dance pieces, in styles ranging from modern to belly dance to Bollywood. A dozen choreographers. More than 40 dancers. This year’s Valerie Blackwell-Truitt Community Dance Concert is an extravaganza of local dance. And it’s happening next Friday and Saturday, March 10 and 11, at 7:30 p.m. at the Antioch College Foundry Theater.
It’s been more than 20 years since Valerie Blackwell-Truitt presented the first dance concert that would evolve into Yellow Springs’ annual community dance performance. The concerts have always involved a host of local choreographers, dancers and dance lovers. When Blackwell-Truitt moved to Colorado in 2009, the dance concerts continued, with their founder returning to take part. But now she’s back in the village full time, and back as of this year to the roles of artistic director and producer.
“I’m still amazed after all these years with the people who have come through the dance concert. Who had the drive, commitment — the need — to dance,” she said.
