Doris Frances Blake

Doris Frances Blake winged her flight to the other worlds of God, on the First Day of Ridván, April 21, at 5 p.m. Mrs. Blake was 98 years old. Her journey was aided by a group of dear friends and family members who gathered to prayerfully bathe and anoint her body before cremation.

Mrs. Blake was born the only daughter to James Arnold and Jesse Vine on Jan. 28, 1920, in Philadelphia, Pa. She spent most of her early years in Sharon Hill and Darby, Pa. In 1947, Mrs Blake married Walker M. Blake, II, a young Army lieutenant who promised to show her the world and he did. They immediately moved to post-WWII Philippines. Their 50-year marriage bore five children, nine grandchildren and six great-granchildren.

Mrs Blake was preceded in death by her husband and eldest son, Walker M. Blake. She is survived by Cassandra Blake Zarkades and husband, Nick; Aurelia Blake; Phillip Blake and wife Janice; James Blake and wife, Vanetta; her grandchildren Nicole Blake and Darby Blake, Talia Blake, Matthew Wallace and Hyacinth Wallace, Zoe and Blake Zarkades, James Blake II and Walker M. Blake IV; and myriad sons and daughters of Yellow Springs and the Yellow Springs Bahá’í community.

The memorial service was held on Wednesday, April 25, at 7 p.m. at the Bahá’í Center.
