Track closes season with new records

A season of outstanding performances continued at the Division III Regional Track meet for members of the YSHS girls track and field team. In her final competition of a brilliant career, Amani Wagner finished in fifth place in the shot put, which was one place short of qualifying for the state meet. Amani finished as the school record holder in the discus and shot put. Fellow senior Jasmine Davidson earned an 11th place in the shot put and will go down as the number-two shot put thrower in YSHS girls track history.

Ninth graders Haneefah Jones and Annlyn Foster gained valuable experience at the regionals, with Haneefah earning a personal best in the high jump while finishing in 10th place. Annlyn ran in both the 100- and 300-meter hurdles, with two 12th-place finishes. There are only four regionals in the entire state, with only 64 competitors, which makes each of our competitors among an elite group of competitors. Senior Ayanna Madison also qualified for the regionals,  but a leg injury derailed her from competing.

Coaches Isabelle Dierauer, Peter Dierauer and John Gudgel expect a strong returning nucleus for both the boys and girls teams for the 2019 year.
