Darrell D. Dawson

Darrell D. Dawson, son of the late J. Dudley and Leona Dawson, of Yellow Springs, died on July 2, 2018, in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He was 78.

Darrell was a 1957 graduate of Bryan High School. He graduated from Antioch College in 1962, and received a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Adelphi University in 1968. He completed his doctoral training with an internship at Harvard Medical School’s McLean Hospital in Belmont, Mass. He went on to serve as a clinical psychologist at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, N.Y., and at State University of New York in New Paltz, N.Y., before establishing a private practice in Santa Fe, N.M., where he had been a resident since 1972. 

Darrell is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Dawson, of Los Angeles, Calif.; his son, Justin Dawson, of Santa Fe, N.M.; his grandson, John Bodhi Dawson, of Jaco, Costa Rica; and his brother, John, of Lee, N.H. He was predeceased by his brother, Evan, of New York, N.Y.

One of Darrell’s first jobs was delivering newspapers for the Yellow Springs News. He was an avid sports fan and always followed teams from Ohio. He enjoyed his career, travel and taking part in the artistic and cultural life of Santa Fe.
