Mildred McConville

Mildred McConville passed away peacefully on Aug. 30, 2021, at the age of 96.

Born April 20, 1925, in the small railroad town of Manly, Iowa, she was one of five children born to Anna and Henry Bachman. Mildred married John McConville in 1954 and they moved to Yellow Springs in 1958 for John’s position as a researcher at Antioch College.

She was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church of Yellow Springs, serving as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. Mildred was on the board of the Children’s Center and worked as a volunteer bookkeeper for both the Senior Center and Children’s Center. She also volunteered at Glen Helen, the Chamber of Commerce and Dayton Art Institute. She enjoyed tennis, bridge, travel and birdwatching.

In 1972, Mildred co-founded the Anthropology Research Project in Yellow Springs with her husband, and served as its accountant for many years.

Mildred is survived by her daughters, Jean McConville Payne (Steve), Kay Reimers and Lynn McConville (Leland Mayne). Her grandchildren are Shayna McConville, Lauren Payne (Corey), Eric McConville (Nikki), John Reimers, Eric Reimers, Peter Mayne and Eleanor Mayne; and great-grandchildren are Adrianne and Theodore McConville, Oren Johnson and Milla Johnson.
The family designates the Glen Helen Raptor Center for any donations in memory of Mom and our Dad, John McConville.
