Honora “Norie” Patton Closz

Honora “Norie” Patton Closz, of Shenango On the Green, New Wilmington, Pennsylvania, passed away at the residence on Nov. 11, 2023. She was 101 years old and was known and loved for being sweet, selfless and classy.

She was born in Curwensville, Pennsylvania, on April 11, 1922, to the late William Addleman and Honora Russell Ganoe. She graduated from Antioch College before marrying the love of her life, Charles Murray Closz, on May 28, 1944. He preceded her in death July 26, 2014. Together, they traveled the world, served their community, square danced, bowled and golfed.

Norie is survived by two sons, Larry (Marsha) Closz, of Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, and Charles (Jean) Closz, of Maryville, Tennessee; and three daughters, Barbara Craig, of Sunbury, Ohio, Betsy (Gregory) Field, of Sunbury, Ohio, and Linda (Jerry) Winters, of New Wilmington, Pennsylvania. Norie was adored by 12 surviving grandchildren, Andy Closz (Tara), Jason Craig (Andrea), Jeff Closz (Cathy), Shannon Dahlstrom (Phil), Eric Craig (Casey), Scott Field (Hilary), Patrick Closz (Rachel), Ryan Craig (Rachel), Jackie Baker (Ben), Aaron Closz (Carolyn), Sheryl Klenovich (Nick) and Shawna Crum (Jeremy); and 29 great-grandchildren.

Norie was an active member of the New Wilmington Presbyterian Church. She shared her vocal talents in Shakespearean festivals, Westminster alumni choir and church choirs. She enjoyed writing, poetry and the arts. She created intricate gifts via knitting, sewing and cross-stitch for family, friends and Jameson Hospital Junior Guild.

Norie was preceded in death by: a son-in-law, Randall Craig; her twin sister, Rebecca Nussdorfer; and sisters Constance Jones and Mary Silsby.

Visitation was Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2023, 3–6 p.m., at Smith Funeral Home, 310 W. Neshannock Ave., New Wilmington, PA.

Funeral services were Thursday, Nov. 16, 2023, at 11 a.m., at New Wilmington Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Dr. Matt Camlin and Pastor Rebecca Rosengarth officiated, and interment followed at Fair Oaks Cemetery, New Wilmington, Pennsylvania.
