
Sada Sutherland

Sada Ashby Sutherland, age 90, born Aug. 10, 1935, in Nora, Virginia, passed away peacefully at Hospice of Dayton on Monday, Sept. 22, 2025.
Sada loved her years as an English instructor at Ball State, Clark State and other colleges in the region. She was voted winner of the Professional Excellence award by students and colleagues at Clark State Community College in 2002.
She was an avid reader, loved walking in nature and hosting dinners for family and friends. She will be remembered for her innate practicality, her intense determination and for the kindness and love she showed for her family.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughters, Dionne Moira, of Yellow Springs, and Deirdre Owen (Erik Owen), of Athens, Georgia; her grandchildren, Ryan Berning (Megan Kaplon), Josh Berning (Shanda Browning), Marina Lee (Edward Lee) and Oona Owen (Lee VonRabenstein); her great-grandchildren, Amiri Lee, Jasmine Lee, Max Browning and Braelin Browning; sister Evelyn McKinney (Waitsel McKinney), sister Ruth Nichols and brother Joe Smith, all from Nora, Virginia. Sada also leaves a cherished circle of nieces, nephews and friends.
A tribute tree will be planted next fall in celebration of her life.
