Ross Allen Looney
- Published: December 1, 2025
Our beloved brother, Ross Allen Looney transitioned peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2025, in Springfield, Ohio. He was the second of four children born to James A. Looney and Grace L. (Ball) Looney on Oct. 22, 1959.
Ross was preceded in death by his parents; aunts, Marjorie D. Ball and Joanne C. Blackwell; uncles, John and Arthur Ball Jr.; and cousin Jackqelyn Ball-Callahan-Green, all of Springfield, Ohio.
He leaves to rejoice in many memories two sisters, Joyce Looney and Dawn (Mikki) Sanders; two brothers, Albert Looney and Blake (Theresa Hall) Looney; nephews, Evan Looney, Michael and Sean Wallace and Christopher Sanders; great-nephew, Kaesean Wallace; great-niece, Miana Wallacel and many cousins.
Ross grew up in Yellow Springs, Ohio, where he graduated from Yellow Springs High School in 1978 and was a member of First Baptist Church. He played for the high school soccer team, where he was a four-year letterman among other awards.
Ross went on to Ohio University, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Art Therapy in 1985. Later upon his return to Springfield, Ohio, he worked for the Wal-Mart Corporation for 27 years.
As a youngster he enjoyed being a member of Glen Helen Junior Naturalists, and continued his love of nature throughout his life — thus his reasoning for a natural green burial to replenish the earth.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2025, from noon–1 p.m., at Jackson Lytle & Lewis Funeral Home, Yellow Springs, with his funeral beginning at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in Ross’ honor.
