Margaret Ann Stewart Diehl died on Monday, March 16, 2026, at the age of 96.
A native of Yellow Springs, Ann was born on Dec. 05, 1929, to Russell and Margaret Stewart. She attended the Antioch School, finishing eighth grade in a class of two, the other student being Caroline Wingfield Roth, who remained her lifelong best friend. At Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, Ann completed high school and earned an AA.
Ann married Eugene Philip Diehl, also of Yellow Springs, and worked with him and their good friend Alma Dannaker at the Diehl Insurance Agency. Alma made it possible for Ann and Gene to spend winter months in Naples, Florida.
During their 62-year marriage, Ann and Gene enjoyed their beach life and friends and a shared love of horses that took them around the Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana show circuit as Ann, an accomplished equestrienne, competed successfully on the four saddlebreds she owned.
Ann will be remembered as very bright, beautiful, well-read, meticulous in her appearance and as a funny and unusual grandmother. She always called the shots, drove cool cars, and lived the life she wanted.
She is survived by her daughter, Leslie Scheper (Mike), of Boca Raton, Florida, and their children, Jack (Brooke) of Delray Beach, Florida, and Beau (Jamie), of Lake Worth Beach, Florida; son, Drew, of Cincinnati, and his former wife, Susan, and their children, Emily Geis (Dr. Ben), of Louisville, and Phillip (Ava) Diehl, of Philadelphia. Ann also leaves behind a brother, Perry, of Yellow Springs. She was predeceased by grandson Scott Scheper in 1980 and her husband, Gene, in 2014. Special thanks go to the kind and caring staff at Shawnee Estates.
At Ann’s request, there will be no services.
