Art openings held today

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Art lovers about town will be happy to learn that they can treat themselves to two opening receptions in the village today. From 2 to 4 p.m., the Glen Helen Atrium Gallery will celebrate the opening of local artist Russ Shaw’s “Birdsong Hill: low-relief wood images.” The show features three-dimensional nature scenes depicted on a variety of native Ohio wood. According to Shaw, much of his inspiration comes from observing nature on his Yellow Springs farm; occasionally, says Shaw, the idea for a piece “picks me as I gaze across the fields and woods where I live.” Birdsong Hill will be on display through April 29; open gallery hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Admission to the opening reception, and to the exhibit’s regular gallery hours, is free.

Glen House Art, housed by local bed and breakfast Glen House Inn, will host an opening reception for “Connection: The African Sculpture Collection of Glenn Owen” today from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Photos from the collection and a full artist’s statement from Owen are available at http://www.glenhouseart.com. The exhibit will be on display through April 11, and gallery hours are held each Sunday, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.

Hi – Are you updating this for this coming w.e.? I’ve got an opening at the Winds Cafe this sunday, March 11, 4:30-6:30 and I’d love to see it highlighted also. It is on the calendar but the info is rather hidden to those looking for activities, etc.

Here’s the facts….Libby Rudolf and Jennifer O’Brien currently have artwork hanging at the Winds Cafe, primarily watercolor and acrylic paintings. The community is invited to the Artist’ Reception this Sunday, 3/11, 4:30-6:30. Libby paints scenes from the Glen and nature, portraits, impressionistic style. Jennifer paints lively colored cats and abstracts.
