Art, music downtown this weekend

The village is gearing up for a day packed with art, music and entertainment this Saturday, Aug. 9, with the annual “Art on the Lawn” art and craft show and the Village Fam Summer Jam Block Party.

Now in its 31st year, “Art on the Lawn” will feature approximately 100 artists under the shade trees of Mills Lawn from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., featuring art, music and food. Items on display and for sale will include jewelry, papercraft, paintings, drawings, photography, ceramics, glass, fiber art and more, as well as author readings and book signings. Yellow Springs-based artist Roger Smith is this year’s featured artist, a self-taught landscape painter who won “Best of Show” at last year’s “Art on the Lawn.” A complete story on this year’s “Art on the Lawn” will appear in this week’s issue of the News. For more information, contact Bill Felker at wlfelker@gmail.com or visit http://www.villageartisans.blogspot.com.

From 2 p.m. to 10 p.m., a short stroll from Mills Lawn, YS Arts Council Community Gallery’s outdoor courtyard will be alive with entertainment during the YSAC’s August Arts Alive! event, the Village Fam Summer Jam Block Party. The event will feature a full line-up local musical acts, including Nerak Roth Paterson Band, Erratic, Mizze & That One Kid Zi, Bob Fraust & Oz, Reem, Sidekick Complex, Lauren Nicole, Read, Spanish Tony Sanchez, Clayton, Marley, Village Fam, and Will C & Family .A section of Corry Street will be closed from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. for food and arts and crafts vending.  Admission is free.
