Don McAllister

Don Thomas McAllister of Yellow Springs died at Kettering Medical Center on Thursday, March 4, with his wife of 55 years, Patty, at his side. He was 78.

Don was born in Circleville on April 10, 1931, to Thomas A. McAllister and Pauline (Rupp) McAllister who, along with one sister, Donna Vorsteg, preceded him in passing. Don was a graduate of Bryan High School, worked with his father at McAllister Plumbing and Heating for many years and retired after working for Greene and Montgomery counties as a plumbing inspector. He was united in marriage with Patty Briggs on December 12, 1954, in Sacramento, Calif.

Don was a longtime member of Yellow Springs United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the choir, board of trustees and served in a host of positions of support and leadership. He was a member of the IOOF Lodge, the American Legion, the Dulcimer Tune Weavers and a number of other music groups in the area.

Don is survived by daughter Beverly Helms and her husband David of Texas, son Michael McAllister of Springfield and daughter Kelly Nelson and her husband Jeffrey of Ga. He is also survived by grandchildren Catherine and Sarah Browning, Jan and Jake McAllister and Andrew and Rachel Nelson.

A memorial service for Don will be held at the Yellow Springs United Methodist Church on Friday, March 12, at 3 p.m. The family will greet friends following the service. Also, a carry-in dinner will be provided. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, any donations considered be offered to the Yellow Springs United Methodist Church.
