Fun run winners

Zach McHugh and Lois Miller won this year’s 26th Annual Village Fun Run. McHugh, a Yellow Springs High School junior, beat a hasty path around the Yellow Springs course to improve from a third-place finish in 2009 to win the event in 11:21. Team Captains Mitchell Brickson and Gabe Amrhein placed second and third overall.

Lois Miller, last year’s winner, aimed to break the 13-minute barrier this year, and she accomplished that by one tick-tock of the clock, to place first in the women’s category, seventh overall in 12:59. Second in the women’s race went to assistant cross country coach Jessica Zagory. The fourth-year med student placed 14th overall out of the 51 finishers in 14:43. Talia Boutis kicked off her first-ever high school cross-country season with a third-place finish among the women in 15:44. Boutis, a freshman, was one of the top middle school girls in the Dayton-Springfield area last season.

Eighth grader Edward Johnson won the McKinney School division, placing 11th overall in 14:12. Sage Hale-Wolfe, another eighth grader, won the ladies’ side of the middle school division with her 36th-place finish overall in 21:21.

Mills Lawn winners were Hayden Orme and Bella Edwards. Master men and women category winners were Coach Vince Peters, eighth overall in 13:24; and Kim Miller, 19th overall in 15:44.
