Catch a ride to the Dayton Philharmonic choral performance

The Yellow Springs Youth Orchestra Association has chartered a school bus to the Dayton Philharmonic Friday, May 17, for the annual choral concert featuring compositions by Britten, Brahms and Arvo Part. The bus departs at 7 p.m. from the high school parking lot and returns at 11 p.m. All are welcome to ride, especially the senior citizens who subscribed to the bus excursion series. A $6 donation to the YSYOA is requested to cover the cost of the bus. Contact Jeff Huntington at 767-7001.

According to the Philharmonic’s notes, the May program combines three varied works that together could be said to inspire spiritual awakening. “Arvo Pärt’s brief, but deeply moving, tribute to composer Benjamin Britten sets a tone of hushed, sacred wonder. It is immediately followed by Britten’s own orchestral reflections of the eternal themes contained within the Mass for the Dead. Then, the glorious German Requiem brings the evening to light. You are there when the DPO Chorus and full Orchestra reveal Johannes Brahms’ deepest meditation on the nature of life and eternity.”
