In February, Yellow Springs Pottery, a local artists’ cooperative, achieved a milestone of 40 years in business. A celebration party for its 10 members and their spouses was held at the Glen House Inn, featuring an afternoon swim, sushi by the pool, a tour of Glenn Owen’s art studio and a catered dinner, followed by a trivia contest. Yellow Springs Pottery celebrates 40 years with live demos

Since 1973, the handcrafted ceramic tableware at Yellow Springs Pottery has been flying off the shelves as fast as its member potters can throw, sculpt and fire them.

The artist co-op store is celebrating 40 successful years with a a pottery sale, refreshments and all-day wheel throwing and hand building demonstrations at the shop from 12 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 22. The store is also selling commemorative anniversary mugs all year long.

Yellow Springs Pottery is located in King’s Yard in downtown Yellow Springs, 222 Xenia Avenue.

Though the number of potters has fluctuated over the decades, there are now 10 member potters, each with a unique aesthetic style and pottery technique. As a cooperative, Yellow Springs Pottery members share expenses and take turns staffing the store, and they rotate other duties like bookkeeping, cleaning and advertising. All member potters produce their work in their own studios.

The variety of tableware and decorative Items for sale at Yellow Springs Pottery currently includes mugs, bowls, platters, teapots, flower vases, pitchers, plates, French butter keepers, sushi plates, sake sets, casseroles, mirrors, birdhouses, tiles, garlic keeps, mirrors, Japanese mortar and pestles, sponge holders, wind chimes, napkin holders, salt and pepper shakers, tiny boxes, chip and dips, honey pots and more.
